One of my Mamma hens--Ethel just loves to raise little chicks. She had 4 batches of babies last year and is currently picking out the rooster of her choice for the daddy of the next batch.....

A few of my hens with my main rooster, Count Rudolph, a Black Australorp breed. The hens are a variety of Australorps (an excellent brown egg layer and very hardy), Production Reds (another excellent brown egg layer, with sex linked coloring), Ameraucanas (known as the “Easter Egg” layer of green, blue even pink eggs) and Buff Orpingtons (good layers of brown eggs, known for their quiet dispositions).

The flock also includes a few Silkies (naturally dwarf birds with feathers on their legs and feet, usually having an extra toe on each foot) and “home born” girls of various pedigrees and crosses. I also have a large group of Guinea Fowl--and they are another story for later.

A spring time view of happy chickens foraging for grass and bugs. In the background is their white hen house. Many fruit trees provide shade during the hot months and a few tasty treats when the peaches are ripening.
